Two-year A level

Two-year A Level

èßäAV Group offers a wide range of A level courses in our Colleges. In small classes of 9 and below within our sixth form, our two year A level students are able to study over 40 different subjects in bespoke combinations, tailored to their future aspirations. Every student is supported by a dedicated Personal Tutor as they use their A level and Extended Project Qualification grades to progress to high quality universities in the UK and internationally, including Oxbridge, Russell Group and specialist universities such as medical schools.

Two-Year A Level Courses

èßäAV has a thriving sixth-form community.

The college gives extensive advice at interview on the enormous variety of subject choices that we have available. Students meet with subject tutors and can attend taster sessions for subjects which interest them. We will then review subject choices again following the GCSE results and, where necessary, during the first few weeks of term.

Two-year course structure

Most students joining the lower sixth study three subjects at A level and also undertake the EPQ (Extended Project Qualification). This programme of study enables students to follow a broad and balanced curriculum, whilst benefitting from the flexibility that the EPQ provides.

The tradition at èßäAV has always been to design programmes of study around the individual needs of each student. Those who wish to study more or fewer or more subjects than our standard model will be provided for as they always have been in the past.

Extracurricular programme

More than any other student cohort at èßäAV, it is perhaps our two-year A level students who become most engaged with our extracurricular programme, where a host of sporting, cultural, club and academic extension activities are available on a voluntary basis. The friendships made in class and through our extracurricular programme are often the basis for the vibrant atmosphere that is so characteristic of èßäAV’s sixth-form community.

"èßäAV gave me a second chance in pursuing a career in dentistry. The small class sizes and weekly timed assessments gave me and my tutors a clear indication of my progress. The rigorous teaching schedules, structured and tailored to my personal needs, was exactly what I needed. èßäAV placed heavy focus on exam technique as the key to achieving the required higher grades. Being able to talk with my tutors at any time in the day was an invaluable aid. It was also clear how much the teachers took a personal interest in the development of each individual student."

"I chose èßäAV because of the academic support provided by the college, which was instrumental in helping me throughout the challenging nature of my one-year A level courses. The weekly Timed Assignments and assistance provided by the Personal Tutor system helped me in areas I had previously struggled. Playing for the college football team was a great release from the challenging academic nature of the year and it helped me build friendships with other students in the college"

"The best part about studying at èßäAV is the friendly, encouraging and supportive classroom environment that èßäAV provides. It makes asking for help and reaching your potential easy and enjoyable. The college really helps students to believe in themselves. The Personal Tutor system is great because it is available for you to use to whatever extent you might need whether that be having weekly meetings or meeting every now and then for a quick catch up to analyse my current progress. The weekly Timed Assignments have also enabled me to build my confidence in the build up to my exams. They help you to feel comfortable in an exam environment, as well as enable you to consolidate the material you need to recall in the final exams"
